IT'S A BOY! CELEBRATING BABY WITH A BEAUTIFUL, TRAVEL-THEMED BRUNCH / by Eric Monteiro

From integrating vintage luggage into the buffet display to laying the table with paper maps of the world, this baby shower’s vintage travel theme, tied together with a color palette of pastel blue and white, was a pleasure to work with! Our last baby shower, celebrating a girl, was an explosion of girly pink replete with tutu dessert tables. We love a good theme, so we were excited about tackling something completely different for this special day.

Arrangements of pale blue hydrangeas and Baby Breath, in small wooden crates from Unearthed Vintage, were the table centerpieces, along with blue balloons styled as hot-air balloons for the travel theme. The tables are made from 100 year-old reclaimed pine. [Photos: Nicky Monteiro]

The travel theme made perfect sense because the family owns hotels all over the world. Working with the mom to-be's best friend for the decor, we highlighted the travel theme with vintage and rustic elements such as the whitewashed Hampton Farmhouse tables, made of 100-year-old reclaimed pine from a barn in North Carolina, and the Caretta (for the buffet,) originally from Canary Wharf in London.

All vintage items, including the old cameras and the antique luggage, were rented from Unearthed Vintage in Miami, the first vintage rental company in South Florida and the largest vintage rental company in the Southeast.

This baby shower was an intimate celebration for closest friends and family, and the menu was quite diverse because a few important guests were vegan. Hors d'oeuvres such as vegan summer rolls and mini shots of tomato soup with tiny bites of vegan grilled cheese were passed around by waiters, and the brunch buffet included vegan items such as muffins, coconut cranberry breakfast bars and lemon buckwheat waffles with seasonal fruit. Other non-vegan Brunch offerings included a trio of Eggs Benedict (traditional, Florentine and Smoked Salmon,) Mason Jar Yogurt Parfaits and Smoked Salmon on Mini Bagels.
